In conjunction with LJMU Openlabs we’re doing some research into how makers move from crafting items individually to higher production volumes - something we’re calling Indie Manufacturing.

The research is for the Royal College of Art, as part of its Future Makespaces in Redistributed Manufacturing project.

We’ll be interviewing makers, manufacturers and other relevant people; kicking off some mapping of the local supply chain across the UK Maker Belt here in the North of England; and also making a small run - a couple of hundred - of a MCQN Ltd product, to experience the issues first-hand.

Exciting times!

The research will be documented as we go over on the project website - indie.mcqn.com. If you want to keep up with what’s going on then stick the RSS feed into your reader or sign up to the Indie Manufacturing mailing list (both will get the same content).
