Chris again this week (and a half, Monday was busy). It was a slightly truncated week for me, fitting in the last of the school 3d printing workshops. There was still time for a very productive meeting with Adrian to plan the architecture for the Museum in a Box UI improvements. We’ve talked about it before in weeknotes but the primary goal is to give users more indication something is happening during updates. In general use the box has a set of recorded phrases it plays to provide information: ‘That sticker is encoded’, ‘Ok, let’s get you connected to wifi..’ are just a few of the phrases that are burned into our brains. This isn’t really feasible, or even that desirable during the download phase of the updates. Instead we are working on a solution that uses the LED lights on the front of the box, in combination with a web page served by the box. Like all the best planning sessions it involved a huge piece of paper, lots of boxes and arrows and the occasional question mark before we settled on the best structure. Now it’s just a case of fitting in the actual coding around the client work.
Neil was busy sifting through the images and videos from Liverpool Makefest and sharing them around. That and ‘moving pixels around on a screen.’
Adrian has been working on improvements to our website, mainly focused on the header, but working his way down. He ended the week with some Freecad Friday, with running repairs to DoES Liverpool. For those not fluent ‘DoorHandleBoss’ is a Scouse compound noun, meaning ‘very good door handle.’
